VIDEO: Remove superglue from plastic
Superglues are very sensitive to humidity and very high or low temperatures. You can take advantage of this.
Remove superglue with cold
- One way to remove superglue from plastic is to cool the plastic. The easiest way to do this is in a freezer.
- To do this, put the plastic object on which the superglue is located in the freezer for a few hours.
- The cold causes the plastic to contract and you can simply remove the superglue mechanically, i.e. scrape it off.
- The only disadvantage: it doesn't work with larger plastic objects, such as the dashboard - they don't fit in the freezer.
- Fortunately, there is a cold spray. Spray it on the damaged area and then try to scrape off the superglue.

Be careful with plastic and solvents
- There are a few solvents available to remove superglue: from acetone, nail polish remover, white spirit, nitromethane to salad oil.
- Unfortunately, most solvents not only remove the superglue, they also attack the plastic. This is especially true for acetone and nail polish removers, most of which contain acetone.
- First try the solvents on a hidden spot. This is how you can see if the plastic is discolored or dull.
Remove superglue from plastic with solvents
- You can remove superglue from plastic with nitromethane, which you can get in model shops, for example. Or you can use white spirit instead, which is white spirit.
- Carefully apply the solvent to the superglue stain with a rag and rub it in gently. Pay close attention to whether the paint is peeling off instead of the superglue. If so, stop.
- Alternatively, try salad oil. Put it on the super glue and let it soak. The advantage: the oil is not as stubborn as some solvents.
- You can also remove the superglue from the plastic with an adhesive remover, such as that from Uhu. However, please follow the instructions on the package.
