Oxydator for the garden pond

No pond owner is happy about cloudy prospects in the garden pond. If you have a slightly smaller pond, this can happen quickly. Old leaves rotting on the pond floor and a plague of algae can be a lot of work for you. Sometimes an oxidator can help quickly.

Imbalance in the garden pond

Ideally one is pond a harmonious ecosystem that does not require additional aids such as an oxidizer. In a garden pond - and a smaller one at that - this natural order is not always present. The reasons are different.

  • Foliage that collects on the pond floor and then rots there brings putrefaction gases and suspended particles with it. The water becomes cloudy and the quality of life for the pond fish is impaired.
  • Seaweed are a stubborn enemy in every garden pond. They can multiply explosively. This often happens almost unnoticed when the first rays of sun warm the water in spring.
  • A pump with too little power will not be able to clean the water and bring enough movement into the pond. This favors the putrefaction processes. Algae find an ideal place that provides them with enough nutrients.
  • A small pond can only cope with a certain number of fish, which also contribute to the pollution of the water through their metabolic products.

Oxydator and basic care

In most cases, you can save your garden pond with little effort by increasing the oxygen saturation. The oxidator is used for this.

  • You do not need to equip your garden pond with additional technology for this purpose. An oxidator works without electricity and consists of a container that uses hydrogen peroxide in a low concentration.
  • It is a chemical reaction that you set in motion by sinking the filled container into your pond. If the reaction agent is used up, you can fish it out again and fill it up again.
  • The additional oxygen hinders algae growth and the water quality for the fish increases.
  • An oxidator is not a substitute for regular ones Pond maintenance. Prevent autumn leaves from ending up in your garden pond beforehand. Tighten a net or patiently fish the leaves over and over again in autumn.
  • As soon as you notice that algae are forming, counteract this with algae killers in the pond water. Regular cleaning of the filter and checking the UV lamp in it are also noticeable.

These measures, together with the additional oxygen from the oxidizer and only a small fish population, ensure that you can enjoy the clear water of your pond for a long time.
