Mending shoe soles - means and tips

  • The soles of the shoes these days are mostly glued and no longer sewn. Poor quality glue can move around a lot humidity or one too fast dry but quickly remove it from the shoe.
  • If this only happens after the warranty has expired, use the high-quality adhesive yourself. When making your selection, however, make sure that it is also suitable for the material of the sole.
  • Should the repairs be carried out particularly quickly? Then use double-sided tape. If you attach this carefully between the sole and the shoe, you will achieve a long service life in many cases.
  • As a measure for on the go, you can also use simple adhesive tape or even plaster that you put in a loop and use as a temporary connection.
  • If there are cracks in the lower sole, superglue will help you to create a continuous layer again. If you then seal the surface with silicone, it is even waterproof again.

Glue the soles to shoes - this is how it works

  1. Clean the soles of the affected pair of shoes and let them dry slowly. Drying too quickly at high temperatures, for example on the heater, can lead to further peeling of the soles and the formation of cracks.
  2. Cut a piece of double-sided tape that is slightly larger than the affected area.
  3. Peel off the protective paper on one side of the tape and stick it between the sole and the shoe.
  4. Brush out any air bubbles that may have formed between the bottom of the shoe and the detached shoe sole with even pressure.
  5. Now remove the second protective paper and press the sole of the shoe on.
  6. Cover the excess adhesive surface with paper and cut it off with scissors.
  7. We recommend using a cutter knife so that you can remove even the smallest protruding pieces. Be very careful not to cut yourself or the shoe.
