Some Herbs however, are so vigorous that the best solution is to grow them at a certain distance from the other plants or to plant them alone in a (not too small) pot. These include, for example, lovage and peppermint.

  • Planting annual and biennial herbs right next to each other is usually not a problem. For example, tarragon, rosemary, sage, chives, thyme and lemon balm go well together. Then there is no problem, dill, borage, chervil, cress, Marjoram and parsley in close proximity to each other.
  • With thyme you should change the location every year, because it is incompatible with itself. The first location can be reused after three years at the earliest.
  • The same applies to dill, oregano, parsley, thyme: they too should get a new location every year.

In addition to the physical compatibility, you should also make sure that the herbs match in color. Blue flowering plants, for example, look good next to yellow flowering ones, while red spots of color look nice between white flowering herbs.
