What you need:

  • Old dishes
  • old tiles
  • Tile adhesive (hardens slowly)
  • Grout
  • hammer
  • spatula
  • sponge
  • gloves

Is your parasol standing in an ugly concrete parasol stand and you can no longer see it? Then simply change it by sticking a mosaic on it. You can also dispose of old tile scraps or old dishes.

How to prepare the mosaic

  1. Use a hammer to break flat plates or tiles into pieces of different sizes.
  2. Sort out small splinters so that you don't injure yourself when you glue your mosaic later.
  3. Sweep dust and dirt off the parasol base. If you own a compressor, it is great for this job.
  4. Mix the slowly hardening tile adhesive according to the instructions on the package and have a suitable spatula ready.
  5. Make mosaic mirrors yourself - this is how it works

Mosaic stones can be processed very easily. Nevertheless, you can have great effects ...

  6. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Glue your parasol stand

  1. If you only ever coat smaller areas with tile adhesive, you will have enough time to complete your mosaic without the adhesive hardening.
  2. You now place the pieces of ceramic that you have already broken into shape in such a way that there are gaps between them, but they are not too big.
  3. If you want to make a pattern, you should draw it with a pencil right at the beginning and lay out the pieces accordingly.
  4. Now glue the entire parasol stand piece by piece.
  5. With the help of the tile adhesive, you can level out unevenness and create a smooth surface later.
  6. You can remove overflowing glue with a slightly damp sponge or cloth.
  7. After completing the gluing work, allow the tile adhesive to dry out.
  8. Now remove all remnants of the tile adhesive and then mix the grout.
  9. Spread the mixture as indicated on the package.
  10. You should also let the grout dry out completely.
  11. Once it has dried, you can remove the remains with a sponge and clear water.
  12. After wiping it off several times, the gray veil will also disappear from your work of art.

With just a few resources and a few hours of work, you can turn an ugly concrete parasol base into a unique piece decorated with a mosaic.

On plastic stands, you should work with tile adhesive specially designed for plastic.
