Interesting facts about the formation of moss

• Where moss is part of the natural flora and fauna in forests, it can be very annoying and unsightly on stone slabs or on house walls and severely impair their appearance. Mosses come in many different types. To grow, they need a nutrient-poor, acidic and moist soil as well as shady places.
• In order to be able to permanently remove moss, you have to deprive it of its livelihood. However, since this is difficult in most cases, you should choose those that are less prone to moss when buying stone slabs. These include stone slabs or Materials that have a high silica content. Granite is therefore particularly suitable, whereas sandstone is rather unsuitable.

This is how the plants can be removed from stone slabs

• You can easily remove moss between individual stone slabs with an appropriate joint scraper. You can try to tackle any growth on the plates with a stiff brush and sufficient muscle strength.
• For larger areas there are u. a. Cleaning devices with rotating brush heads, such as those used in the construction industry, for example. You can borrow such a device from a construction machine rental shop for a fee.
• The use of a high-pressure cleaner is a particularly effective method. It is best to use a high-pressure cleaner that can also spray hot water, as cold water usually does not produce a satisfactory result. If possible, you should not use a high-pressure cleaner on exposed aggregate concrete. The jet would be too strong and could permanently damage the surface of these stone slabs. After the treatment with the high-pressure cleaner, you should fill the joints between the stone slabs with sand again.

• Cola is said to be a helpful home remedy for removing moss. The phosphoric acid contained is supposed to destroy the moss. Always use the cola undiluted. However, this method is only suitable for smaller areas.
• If none of that helps, you still have the option of using a special moss destroyer available from retailers. You should always follow the manufacturer's instructions in order to avoid damage to stones or surrounding plants.
