Are you a fan of prickly plants? Then you take care of "multiplication".

Cacti - easy to care for and sun-kissed

Cacti are not very demanding. Propagating the prickly plants is just as easy as caring for them. All you need is an offshoot. By the way: It finds its origin cactus in America - most of the cacti can be found in Mexico.

  • It is no wonder that cacti love the sun. In your home, every cactus should therefore have a bright and very sunny window seat.
  • In the warm months you can put your cacti outside in the sun, the plants will like it and they will thank you with a healthy appearance.
  • However, it is imperative to ensure that you never expose your cacti to heavy rainfall. Every cactus reacts "allergic" to too much moisture. The plants can die as a result.
  • Succulent offshoots - plant and care for them

All plants that can store water are succulents. Most species have ...

Offshoots from the prickly plant

The best times of the year to separate the offshoots from your cacti are spring and early summer.

  1. You can separate the offshoots from the cacti by simply twisting them. However, it is better if you cut off the cuttings with a sharp knife. Trimming prevents excessive damage to both the mother plant and the offshoot.
  2. In any case, the injuries caused by the separation must heal. The cuts now have to dry thoroughly. Place your cuttings in an empty flower pot to dry.
  3. After a few days the interfaces are dry and you can now plant your cuttings in a mixture of sand and earth. Make sure, however, that the cutting does not disappear too far into the earth.
  4. Carefully push the offshoot into the ground. Only the root point should be covered by the mixture of sand and earth. Keep the small cutting moist, but be careful not to get the soil too wet.
  5. Soon you will be able to watch your prickly offshoot grow into a fully grown cactus. You should now give the plant a larger pot.

You can use a mixture of sand and conventional potting soil to plant the cacti. Better - and easier -, however, is to use cactus soil. Treat your prickly friends to a high-quality soil, otherwise the plants do not have any special requirements.
