What is spirit
Spirit - you have come across this term several times, but no one has been able to clearly define what spirit is exactly? This could be due to the fact that one can understand several things by spirit.
What does spirit mean?
- Spirit is an English word and originally comes from the Latin "spiritus", which means something like "breath" or "breath". The word "Spirit" is e.g. B. to be found in the German word "Spiritualität" - this word describes the belief in something, e.g. B. God, spirits etc.
- Spirit does not mean anything physical - it is the spirit of a person, consequently his soul - i. H. that which defines the person and is in contrast to the body - everything that can be clearly seen and touched. Spirit is the individual consciousness of a person and their personality.
- Religions different cultures z. B. deal with the subject of the spirit - some claim that after the death of a person, the spirit is reborn in the body of a new person. Others say that after death the spirit will pass into the big picture and is therefore infinite. There is also a belief in heaven and hell. There the person resp. the spirit for his earthly life and for what he has achieved there, rewards or fined.
What spirit still means
- The term spirit is not only interpreted as a soul - spirit is also understood to mean ghosts. all that is supernatural, e.g. B. the souls of deceased people. In German, the term "Geist" has a rather frightening effect, whereby the term "Spirit" seems to be very neutral. The reason for this is perhaps the association with a person's soul.
- In English, spirit can be related to anything that is not material or has no body, e.g. B. to gods and also to demons - they cannot be touched, nevertheless humans have an idea of them and they play a very important role in some lives. In English the term "Holy Spirit" is used - in German it is called "Holy Spirit".

So don't be fooled by words like B. Confusing spirit - these are often just words that we have taken over from English and actually we have terms for them in German such as e.g. B. "Faith", "the soul" or "the spirit", which we often encounter in language usage.
