Build a herb house

A homemade herb house fulfills the same purpose of a mini greenhouse. You need a pot with a diameter of twelve to 15 centimeters, sowing soil and a large empty plastic bottle. For the seedlings you will later need small pots in which the plants can grow.

  1. Fill the flower pot. Fill the pot with seed compost. The soil should reach one centimeter below the edge of the pot. Since they don't fertilizer contains, it is well suited for the sensitive shoots.
  2. Pour earth. Water the soil so that it is well moistened, but not too wet.
  3. Sow seeds. The different Herbs have different sowing conditions. Place the seeds on or in the soil according to the instructions on the bag.
  4. Prepare the plastic bottle. Take a clear, empty plastic bottle and cut off the bottom.

  6. Put the plastic bottle in the pot. Press the bottle onto the potting compost so that the seeds are underneath. It is advantageous if you use a large bottle.

Your herb house is ready. The plastic bottle acts like a greenhouse, under which there are perfect conditions for the seedlings to sprout.

Grow seeds in the mini greenhouse

The seeds need it relatively moist and warm to thrive in your homemade herb house.

  1. Put the herb house in the sun. Put the herb house in a place that is warm. For example, a window sill that is in the sun in the mornings and afternoons is a good location. South windows are perfect.
  2. Spray plants. A lot of moist air will collect under the bottle if you water the soil regularly. The germinating seeds must not drown. Use a hand sprayer instead of a watering can. Spray water on the soil once a day and later on the germinating plants.
  3. Clean bottle. You should wipe the bottle regularly to prevent mold from forming.
  4. Sprout seedlings. After two days you will discover the first seedlings.
  5. Repot plants. When your plants are about two inches tall in the nursery, place them in individual pots. Keep growing them on the windowsill.

In this way, you cultivate various culinary herbs like cress, basil, Chives, thyme or sage.
