Having your own garden is a nice thing. But it is annoying when you find moss in the lawn. Read here how it works with the moss destruction in this case.

If you race is very humid, moss forms quickly. You can prevent this in most cases, unless you live in a wetland and your garden is very shady. If you could not prevent and the moss infestation is current, you have to carry out a moss destruction with a special moss destroyer.

This is how a moss destruction is carried out

  1. There are various means of killing moss. The active ingredients of this Moss destroyer are mostly iron (II) sulfate or quinoclamine. These products completely kill the moss within 7-10 days. Buy a preparation on one of these bases at the garden center or on the Internet. With these remedies, you should wait until it has rained before treating, as these ingredients work best in damp weather.
  2. It is advisable to do the moss destruction together with a Lawn fertilizer to strengthen the lawn while the moss dies. There are even combinations of moss killer and lawn fertilizer for this purpose. Spray both evenly on your lawn. Make sure that you do not bring any stone slabs or decorations into contact with the moss destroyer, as otherwise ugly discoloration can occur.
  3. Wait a few days after the moss destruction treatment. If the moss turns black and stunted, mow your lawn as short as possible. Then you can start the actual moss destruction. Remove the dead moss with a scarifier. The device should be set so that it only scores 1-2 millimeters deep into your garden soil with the knife roller.
  4. If you don't have a scarifier, you can rake off the moss with a rake. You can then put the moss on your compost dispose. You now have to reseed the bare spots that have remained after the moss has been destroyed with a reseeding lawn (use a branded product!). Spread the lawn seeds and then put a thin layer of turf soil over it.
  5. How often to scarify - this is how your lawn grows best

  6. Now water your lawn regularly for four to six weeks to prevent the lawn seeds from drying out and developing. When the lawn has grown back, you can mow it. From now on you should try to prevent the formation of new moss so that you do not have to kill moss again soon.
  7. You can prevent this by taking good care of your lawn. Mow it from spring to winter approx. Once a week, but let it stand at least 4-5 centimeters high.
