Beautiful pictures on stretcher frames are all the rage. Many do not know that they can simply make the pictures themselves using the napkin technique. You can find out how this works here.

Use the napkin technique to turn stretcher frames into works of art

Napkin technique is a nice way to rearrange stretcher pictures that you no longer like.

  1. If the stretcher was previously hung in a kitchen, you should degrease the canvas with washing-up liquid and then wipe it off with benzine.
  2. Select a motif with which you can design the stretcher. It is also no problem to glue on a collage of different napkin motifs.
  3. If you know the motifs that you want to apply using the napkin technique, choose a dark acrylic paint with which you can prime the entire canvas, including the edges.
  4. Once the paint has dried, brush on the crackling medium and let this medium dry overnight before applying the light craft paint. Important: paint in parallel strips, not criss-cross. Just swipe once!
  5. Stick on the table and chair - this is how it works with the napkin technique

With the napkin technique you can not only embellish small objects, but ...

  6. Now let the frame dry, preferably again overnight. The kakelierung starts quite quickly, but the varnish is still hours too soft for you to start with the napkin technique.
  7. As soon as the stretcher is completely dry, cut or tear the selected motifs out of the napkins. You can also use a whole napkin, but there will be a few creases that are usually not annoying.
  8. Remove the two white sheets of paper that are under the printed sheet. Place the design in the selected place. Hold the design with one finger of your left hand and gently dab with your other hand and the soft brush, place some of the napkin varnish in the center of the motif and repaint it Outside.
  9. Put all the motifs on top and apply another layer of napkin varnish over all the motifs. This makes the napkin technique easier than if you first spread the napkin varnish on the stretcher and then place the motif. Especially with large motifs, it is better to place the motif on the dry stretcher.

Now your stretcher picture is finished using the napkin technique. If you like, you can coat the picture again with clear varnish as soon as it is dry. It is best to use a matte clear lacquer when using decoupage technique on stretcher frames.
