VIDEO: Correct parking meter

When is a parking meter compulsory?

  • Parking meters must be inserted wherever this is indicated by the associated traffic sign.
  • You will usually find these signs at the beginning of the parking zone - often shortly after intersections. Parking discs also often have to be inserted on the premises of department stores. You will also find the maximum parking time allowed on the traffic sign. Make a note of these.

Correct setting of the clock

  1. If you have found a parking space in such a time-limited parking zone, you have to insert a parking meter (also called a parking disc).
  2. The arrival time must always be set on the parking meter. It should be noted that the parking disc only knows half or full hours.
  3. Always set it clearly to the full or half hour and do not try to set the exact arrival time.
  4. Adjust the parking disc - this is how it works

Adjust the parking disc correctly - an example

The arrival time to be set is always rounded up. What this means is clear from the following example:

  1. You arrive at the parking lot at 10:01 a.m. You then have to set your parking meter to 10.30 a.m.
  2. If you come at 10.29 a.m., you must also set 10.30 a.m.
  3. You can of course wait two more minutes so that it is 10:31. Then you can mark 11.00 a.m. as your arrival time on your parking disc.
  • The parking time depends on the permitted parking time in the parking lot. The decisive factor is what time is indicated on your parking disc.
  • Example: It is 10.11 a.m. and you are parking in a 2-hour parking lot. They set their parking disc for 10.30 a.m. and can use the parking lot free of charge until 12.30 p.m.
  • Always place the parking meter clearly visible from the outside on the dashboard of your vehicle or clamp it to the windshield from the inside.
