How to find out where your car was built
- Most of the time, when you buy a new car, you are ordering a vehicle that is tailored to your needs. It will then be produced especially for you and the seller will be happy to tell you where it will be built.
- Another way to find out where your car was built is to call your authorized dealership. They can usually tell you where your vehicle was screwed together on request. All you need is a few pieces of data from your vehicle registration document.
- But that's exactly what you can use to find out for yourself if you have Internet access. Using the vehicle identification number (VIN or VIN), you can read off the location of production, among other things.
- The VIN is a 17-digit combination of numbers and letters in accordance with ISO standard 3779. North American manufacturers use a different but compliant standard.
- The 11th Place gives you information about where your car was built. You only need a decoder for the VIN to read the exact location.
