The route of a shipment

  1. After a shipment has been handed in, it arrives with other parcels and letters in a distribution center of the shipping provider, where it is sorted according to the destination.
  2. Depending on the length of the route, the consignment is transported by truck or plane to a next center that is closer to the destination. Shipments from or to foreign countries can pass through several such centers.
  3. If the destination is close, it goes from there to a delivery center and finally to a delivery base.
  4. The messenger can pick you up at this point. You can then read the information "In delivery" in the shipment tracking display. Depending on the provider, your shipment can arrive on the same day or be a little longer in coming.

The shipment has left the distribution center - which is what the ad means

  • Different shipping providers use different terms for the individual nodes and transhipment centers that a shipment passes through on its way to its destination. Therefore, the statement "The shipment has left the distribution center" can also have different meanings.
  • Your shipment has arrived - this is how you determine a storage location for DHL parcels

If you receive a parcel or a package that was sent with DHL, ...

  • A distinction is made between the start distribution center, i.e. the center that records the shipment first and transports it to the next base, and the distribution center in the target region. If the shipment has to travel a longer distance, it is routed through further nodes.
  • "The shipment has left the distribution center" does not necessarily have to mean that it is already in your area. In order not to wait unnecessarily for delivery, you should therefore always pay attention to the location information. Only when the shipment is in the delivery center can it be expected to arrive soon.
  • If you repeatedly receive the message that the shipment has arrived or left the distribution center, but the status of the location has not changed, it may be worth calling the shipping provider. Because it is possible that a shipment gets stuck in a center due to technical errors.
