How much your own car uses is very interesting. The best way to calculate it is to refuel and write down the kilometers you have driven.
There are basically two ways to find out how much your car is using. Either you look at the electronic displays while driving or you can calculate the consumption based on the kilometers driven and the liters of petrol consumed.
Read consumption figures from the car
- You can read consumption figures in modern cars on the on-board computer. You can only do this while driving.
- Since much more is consumed when starting off and when driving uphill, the current consumption fluctuates very strongly when driving.
- This is the best way to see how much your car is using when you drive a long distance. Then you can have the average consumption displayed at the end of the journey, which is the most meaningful.

If this type is too imprecise for you or if you do not have a good on-board computer, you can measure the kilometers that you can drive with one tank.

- To do this, it is best to first set the display for the daily kilometers to zero.
- Then drive the car your usual routes until the tank is empty.
- Refuel and remember how many liters you have filled, e. B. 35 liters.
- To do this, take the daily mileage, for example 462.
- Divide the daily kilometers by 100, since consumption figures are always given per hundred kilometers. So 462: 100 = 4.62.
- Now divide the liters you have filled up by your result to find out how much you have used over 100 kilometers. So 35: 4.62 = 7.58.
- The result 7.58 indicates your average consumption. So you have used 7.58 liters of petrol per hundred kilometers.
