Attach cable to wall

Cables are usually used to transmit energy or information. If it makes sense for economic reasons or not prohibited for aesthetic reasons, they are laid on the wall. Certain regulations and guidelines apply so that the basic rules for safety and clarity can be observed.

Cable is not just cable

Depending on the intended use, cables are manufactured in very different ways. If little energy or volume is transported, the cable can be very thin and soft. With increasing performance, the size and stability of the cable also inevitably increases. These characteristics also determine the methods of attachment to the wall. While a stiff cable will stabilize itself, a flexible one needs support to look good on the wall.

The different mounting options

In order for a cable to function reliably and safely, the applicable VDE regulations must be observed. In general, the following fixations come into question for the do-it-yourselfer:

  • Cable duct consisting of base and cover, possibly self-adhesive, or one-piece duct of round or square shape.
  • PVC-Broschierrohr, which is provided with sleeves and can be extended as desired. It offers the advantage that clamps are only required at larger intervals.
  • Clamps of all kinds, which are nailed or screwed directly onto the wall, or consist of a base and the clamp. This keeps the cable at a distance from the wall.
  • Extend antenna cable

If the television set is far away from the wall outlet, you must remove the aerial cable...

This keeps the cable securely attached to the wall

A telephone cable or the LAN connection on the PC is in good hands if you use a cable duct with a cover. This eliminates the annoying threading over several meters. You can also get cable ducts in hardware stores that have a self-adhesive backing. However, this only works if the wall in question is very smooth and even.

In all other cases, you are well advised to use steel pins or screws with which you first attach the base separately. Normal nails are sufficient on wooden ground. If your cable is sufficiently stiff, you are welcome to nail on plastic clamps at the appropriate distance. Suitable sizes are offered for every cable diameter.

If it is a damp room, base clamps are mandatory. Like all other cables, the sockets are placed in such a way that they run in one line both horizontally and vertically and thus offer a neat picture. Several cables can be easily laid next to each other by clipping the sockets together. Now all you have to do is place the cable in the base and clip the clamp over it.

On a wooden underground do the same. On the other hand, if you have masonry in front of you, you can also fix a stronger cable with simple metal clamps. We recommend using dowels and fastening with screws.

As an experienced layman, you can lay live cables yourself. The wiring or Connecting consumers, on the other hand, is reserved for a specialist. In consultation with him, it may also be possible to just check and approve the finished installation.
