Why is there no vaccination against HIV?

The pathogen HIV has been researched for many years. It is a virus that unfortunately cannot be cured. What does the virus mean and why is there still no vaccination against it?

Unfortunately there is no HIV vaccination yet.
Unfortunately there is no HIV vaccination yet.

What does HIV mean

The name human immunodeficiency virus comes from the English "human immunodeficiency virus". HIV is an immune deficiency.

  • HIV is an immunodeficiency virus and is also viewed by medical professionals as an immunodeficiency. It's retroviruses that cause the virus. The retroviruses are judged differently than others. This is because they build their own genes into the genetic material of an infected cell. You stay in these cells. After a while, these can receive a signal to multiply. You may have heard of the fact that the retrovirus from HIV is very well known and can cause AIDS - "acquired immunodeficiency syndrome" (immunodeficiency disease). This virus can also cause blood cancer, for example. There is still no vaccination against the virus. Why is that?
  • If you have become infected with the HI virus, there is a possibility that you will show symptoms shortly afterwards (a few days). These symptoms can be flu-like, such as swollen lymph nodes or even fever.
  • Colloquially, doctors can do an "AIDS test" to detect HIV viruses. However, the test can only be done after about two to three months, because only then has your body formed antibodies.

What the HI virus still means

  • If you have the HI virus, it is usually disease-free. Doctors then speak of a so-called latency phase. AIDS can take decades to break out. This is because the virus gradually weakens your immune system. As things stand today, the HIV virus can be caused by various Medication be held up for a longer period of time. In this way, an outbreak can now be prevented.
  • Exercise after vaccination - how to behave properly

The other day you refreshed your vaccination protection or you caught the flu ...

  • However, this disease is not curable and there is still no vaccination against the HI virus - with all research results so far.
  • To protect yourself, you should, for example, have protected sexual intercourse (condoms).
  • The HI virus is found in high concentrations in the blood, in the anal and vaginal secretions and also in the semen. This is why you should protect yourself.

Why there is still no vaccination against HIV

  • If you've looked around the internet, you may have considered the possibility that an HIV vaccine already exists. However, it is only a hypothetical vaccine that has not yet been effective. Unfortunately, there is still no cure for the virus and no medical preventive measures, for example in the form of a vaccine. Why is there still no vaccination against HIV?
  • So that a vaccine in your body works, its job is to produce so many antibodies that the HI virus - the retroviruses - has no chance. Basically, there is also an active ingredient that can stop the viruses. The problem, however, is that scientists are still facing major problems.
  • The reason why there is still no vaccine against the HI virus is due to the many challenges that the scientists unfortunately cannot yet overcome. On the one hand, there are so many virus strains that first have to be "filtered out" in view of the extreme genetic diversity. The other big problem is that the virus always evades, before the immune response. These are just some of the problems.
  • The vaccine, which has already been hypothetically developed, is based on another source of error. It is called viral reverse transcriptase (RT). Simply put, it's enzymes that were discovered in the retroviruses. But they have no so-called correction function. Unfortunately, the viruses can mutate again and again (change in the genetic make-up - permanent).

However, inhibition by various active substances is possible. Reverse transcriptase is still a target among scientists. Drugs against AIDS have already been able to work.
