Santa Claus in different languages
Santa Claus is a household name in many different parts of the world. Depending on the country and customs, it has different names in different languages. Santa Claus is called Santa Claus in the USA and Sinterklaas in the Netherlands.
1. In the Dutch language area comes the Sinterklaas
In the Netherlands, Santa Claus is called Sinterklaas. His helper Zwarte Piet, which means Black Peter, is always there with him. Both bring on the 5th December the gifts.
2. Santa Claus is coming to the various US states
In different parts of the USA, Santa Claus is called Santa Claus, which translates as Saint Nicholas. Typical of Santa Claus is his reindeer sleigh.
3. The Russian Santa Claus is Father Frost
In some languages, Santa does not translate directly to the same thing. This is also the case in Russia, where Santa Claus is called Ded Moros, which translates to Father Frost. He is always accompanied by his granddaughter Snegurochka.
4. The French Santa Claus is called Père Noël
In France, Santa Claus is called Père Noël. Père Noël, who always wears a long red coat and a pointed cap, also comes to various countries where French is spoken.
5. Santa Claus in Scandinavia
In Finland, Santa Claus is called Joulupukki, which means Christmas goat. He knocks on the door on Christmas Eve and asks if there are any good children in this house. Julbock is spoken in other Scandinavian languages such as Norwegian or Swedish.
