"Crush": What does that actually mean?

Where does the word "crush" come from?
The expression, which incidentally also means “destroy” and “crush” quite unromantically, originally comes from US slang. From around 1900 onwards it was said colloquially: "to have a crush on somebody". Due to increasing Americanization, the expression also reached us, accelerated by the Internet and social media. As you know, many expressions are derived from the American English used by us to express a fact with the foreign word more precisely or because there is no suitable translation or simply to be cool.
However, the “crush” is not always about a person from the circle of acquaintances, it can also be about one Acting as a celebrity, one speaks of a “celebrity crush” whose music or films make your heart pound receives. The word can also be combined with other terms, for example "platonic crush", which means a spiritual love without physical attraction.
The "crush" can also be about "childhood crushes", i.e. childhood heroes that you found great at a young age. For example, cartoon characters or superheroes are meant here.
Be careful with the second meaning of the term!
However, if your son uses the term "crush" when playing games, then he probably means that he destroyed or crushed his opponent. There can hardly be any talk of enthusiasm here.
