Build an air stone in the garden

Air stones are a good alternative to ponds and are ideal for everyone who has children or pets and can therefore only build a protected watering hole in the garden. The installation of an air stone is very easy and also quite cheap. Read on to find out how to do it.
How to build your own hot spring stone
- To be able to build an air stone, you must first dig a hole. This hole should be big enough that you can completely sink the rain barrel into it. The floor should also be fairly level.
- Then sink the rain barrel into the hole and use a spirit level to align it so that it is straight.
- Then fill in the sides of the hole with sand. Now put a large cobblestone on the bottom of the bin and place the pump on it. This will ensure that the pump remains free of dirt that has settled on the floor.
- Attach the hose to the pump and run it upwards. Then place a grid from the hardware store on the rain barrel. You can bend it on the sides and close it around the edge of the bin. But that is not a must.
- Fill the bin with water. Put on the air stone. You can only drill the hole in the middle of the stone yourself with a very strong drill. If in doubt, ask the hardware store for a solution or a corresponding service.
- Now guide the hose into the hole in the stone. The further up the hose goes, the higher the water will bubble later.
- Then cover the grid with large pebbles from the hardware store. You can remove these at any time if necessary. White pebbles create a noble look, stone-colored pebbles look more natural. Basically, your hot spring is now ready.

Since it is necessary to get to the pump from time to time, many craftsmen recommend cutting some kind of flap into the grille. You can close this flap with wire and open it if necessary. This saves you having to remove all the pebbles and the air stone from the grate every time.
