First, download a standard Minecraft skin

  • You often play the online game Minecraft and now want to change your player skin, i.e. its appearance. This is actually not that difficult at all. All you have to do is do a few things.
  • In order to change your own skin as a player, you should first be in possession of an original Minecraft player skin. So this is the prerequisite for a change, as it can be carried out in the following. You can get this original skin directly from the Minecraft program.
  • To do this, open the minecraft.jar file in the% appdata% \. Minecraft \ bin file path. This is a compressed, i.e. zipped, file. This is why you can only open it with an additional program, WinRar or 7zip, which you can download for free from the Internet.
  • You will find the skin in this minecraft.jar file, directly in the "mob" folder. This file is called char.png there. An alternative way to get this file is to go to minecraft.jar on the website  minecraft.net/skin/ download. This in turn only works if you have registered an account there.

How to change the look

  • In the next step, you can now edit this standard skin, the standard appearance, in an image editing program such as Photoshop. Your chosen image editing program should be able to convert PNGOpen files and to be able to support the so-called transparency. As an alternative to the somewhat expensive Photoshop, the free software is also suitable here Gimpwhich you can download from chip.de, for example. The Paint program is not suitable.
  • Minecraft Skin Editor - Helpful Hints

With the Skin Editor, you can completely customize the look of your character in Minecraft.

  • So when you have finished your new skin, save it as a PNG file. It is important that your picture has the same dimensions as the previous original. You can then either save it again in the minecraft.jar file under char.png and thus overwrite the old skin. This applies to a skin in single player mode.
  • If you see the picture on the webpage http://www.minecraft.net/skin/ then you can upload it as a skin in MultiplayerUse mode.
