Create a logo with GIMP
To create a professional and creative logo with GIMP, all you need is your computer, the program, and one mouse.
- By default, GIMP offers some effects for logos. To do this, go to “Create” and “Logos” under “File”. However, the existing effects are not always professional, so it can often be useful to create your own logo by hand.
- It is easiest if you have already made a preliminary drawing of the logo on paper. You scan this in and then all you have to do is trace it.
- Combine text and shapes into a logo. To do this, write your text in the desired location and create your shape on a new layer using the paths tool.
- For a shape, use the paths tool and draw a path with multiple points. When you are at the last point, you can join the shape by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on the starting point.
- Click the center of each line to move it around and fill the finished shape with color. You can create multiple paths on top of and next to each other in this way.
- If you can, go back to standard shapes - GIMP offers a range from rectangles to circles that you can use as a basis for adding your own paths.
- To make the effect more interesting, you can apply a shadow to the layer. To do this, go to “Layer”, “Layer Effects” and “Drop Shadow”. In the following dialog window you can set the direction and the intensity of the shadow.
