  • If you don't want to put in a large mat, you can also cut small cubes. Fill the filter with it and change the cubes about every four to five years. The advantage here is that these cubes cut out of the mat are quite small and handy. If you simply put the cubes in nets, they will also be easier to remove from the filter.

Build the pond filter yourself

  • You don't have to buy an expensive industrial filter for which there are only prefabricated filter mats, which also cost a lot. You can also easily build the pond filter yourself. Get a pump that will let the water flow slowly through it. Put the pump in the pond a. A barrel or a rain barrel is suitable for the filter.
  • You simply drill four holes in the barrel. These are necessary for the hoses. At the bottom of the filter there are pipes in which the good bacteria can settle. Cover the pipes with perforated sheet metal and place the mats or nets with the cubes on them. Now connect the pump to the filter.
