There are countless variants with which photos can be put together to form a collage on the PC. If you want to compose your photos yourself on the PC and not automatically at the push of a button needs to be done, you can create your own collage using the free photo editing program GIMP create. The advantage of combining photos with GIMP is that you can add many extras and effects to the individual images and change them. You therefore have a direct influence on the end result of your collage.

What you need:

  • Digital photos
  • GIMP (or other photo editing program)
  • Pc

Assemble photos into a collage with GIMP

  1. First, find all of them photos right that you want to put together. The best thing to do is to copy all of the photos into a separate folder so you have all the photos in one place and the originals remain unchanged.

  2. Think about what the end result should look like. For example, if you want to combine your photos into a motif (cat, dog, face or car, etc.), choose a suitable photo as a template / background for the collage. On the other hand, if you have your

    pictures just want to put it together without your goal of a particular arrangement, you can skip this step.

  3. It is important that you insert each individual image in a separate layer or assign it to a layer. First you create a layer as a background (or open your motif template) on which you put your photos together. To do this, open the GIMP program and click on "File> New ..." in the top menu bar. or Ctrl + N “. Select the desired image size and the filling and confirm with "OK".

  4. Open a photo and click Edit> Copy. Now return to the still empty background (or template) and select "Edit> Paste as> New Layer" in the top menu bar. Now repeat this step with all the photos that you want to put together.

  5. Each photo is now on a separate layer and can be edited individually.

  7. You can now, by selecting the respective layer of the photo in the layer window, as you like rotate, move, change color, enlarge, reduce, shadow and much more. GIMP offers countless possibilities here and so you can create your own photo collage by adapting and composing your photos.
