Via the BIN file
- The ending .bin stands for the word "binary". These BIN files consist of illegible text (ASCII characters 0-31) and can represent any form of binary file and are therefore not standardized as an independent format.
- This means that BIN files can have different contents for different applications.
- Common uses are: BIOS updates, CPU- commands from computer programs, graphic- and audio files, CD and DVD images.
Open this format
The most common use of BIN files is for the DVD images mentioned above. These contain a complete image of the data carrier. Depending on the type of data carrier, this can be a complete film DVD including menu or the installation DVD / CD of a program. You can either burn this to another CD / DVD or open it directly on your PC.
- In order to burn the data carrier image to a CD / DVD, you need a suitable burning program. The recommended here software "ImgBurn", which you can download free of charge from the Internet.

- To view the image directly on your PC or To install, you need a drive emulator. This represents a virtual CD / DVD drive that plays the BIN file as a virtual CD / DVD. The free light version of the “DEAMON Tools” program is ideal for this. You can also find these on the Internet.
- If your BIN file is not a CD / DVD image, you can still open the file and view it. In this case you can download the “IsoBuster” program. However, this is only available as a shareware version that you can test free of charge for a short time.
All of these programs are very simple and easy to understand. All you have to do is open the desired BIN file and you're good to go.
