A file with the file extension "ODS" is an OpenDocument Spreadsheets, i.e. a spreadsheet file that is created with the free officesoftware OpenOffice was created. Open ODS with OpenOffice

OpenOffice is free software that, similar to Microsoft Office You can carry out your everyday office work such as word processing or spreadsheets.

  1. If you have not yet used OpenOffice, you can download the program from the official website.
  2. As soon as the download is finished, double-click the file to start the installation.
  3. After a quick check of the file, you can skip the welcome screen by clicking on "Next".

  8. Enter a user name or use the given name and continue by clicking on "Next".
  9. In the following window you can select the scope of the installation. Basically, it is recommended that you take over all components in order to be able to use the entire package.
  10. If you do not want a component, click on the triangle next to the program name and select "Do not install".
  11. Under the selection you can also specify your storage location for OpenOffice. When you have selected and specified everything, click "Next".
  12. Finally, you can make two optional settings: create a desktop link and, if necessary, have older versions removed. If you then click on "Install", the installation will start.
  13. When the installation is complete, click “Finish”. You can then use OpenOffice.
  14. After the installation, the standard file extensions for OpenOffice (e.g. also ODS) are automatically assigned to the program. You can now open and edit your ODS file with a double click.
  15. Alternatively, you can right-click on the ODS file and then select the OpenOffice program under "Open with".

Assign ODS file extension Microsoft Excel

If you are already using Microsoft Office (including Excel), you do not necessarily need to install OpenOffice. To be able to open an ODS file in Excel, all you have to do is download and install a plug-in.

  1. If you are using Office 2007, it is sufficient if you have at least Service Pack 2 installed. This also includes the plug-in for OpenOffice files.
  2. If you should use a lower version, you need the Sun ODF Plugin.
  3. Download this and start the installation.
  4. Once you've installed the plugin, you can open and even save OpenOffice file extensions.
  5. If Windows If the ODS file extension should not be assigned correctly, right-click on your ODS file and select the Microsoft Excel program under "Open with".
