Wasps are useful insects because they clear the garden of pests. In the house or in a rented apartment, however, a wasp's nest can be dangerous, especially if there are small children in the house.

Wasps sometimes build their nests in attics and behind wood paneling because they need dry and rotten nests to build wood. Wasp nests can also sometimes be found in roller shutter boxes that have not been used for a long period of time.

Wasps in the house and in the apartment

  • If you have a wasp nest in your house or apartment, you should definitely not try to remove it yourself, as the wasps will attack you if you get too close to their nest. These insects can even sting several times, because their stings have no barbs like the stings of bees.
  • To remove a wasp's nest, protective clothing, especially for the face, is absolutely essential, so leave this work to a specialist.
  • Basically, a wasp's nest is under nature protection and may therefore only be removed if it poses a threat to people. In the case of a wasp's nest in the apartment or on the balcony, however, this is usually the case because the wasps then also fly into the rooms.

If you don't feel threatened by the wasps, you can just wait until autumn. Then the entire wasp state dies anyway, with the exception of the fertilized females and the old nest will no longer be used for the next year. You can therefore safely remove it in winter.
