Big upper arms need wide sleeves

This is the most important thing to hide thick upper arms. If the fabric is tightly stretched around the upper arm, it has the so-called "sausage peel" effect. In winter, sweaters with wider sleeves should therefore be chosen.

  • Bat shirts are ideal for concealing thick upper arms. They are not sewn on, but cut on the top and usually end at the elbows. A great side effect here is that you cannot see the transition from the shoulder to the upper arm because of the missing seam and the shoulders appear narrower.
  • The length also plays a big role. Sleeves that end in the middle of the upper arm make the upper arm appear shorter and therefore thicker. Sleeves that end just below the elbow stretch the arm, making it look slimmer.
  • But you don't want to walk around with long sleeves in summer, that's for sure. Then it is advisable to use tops with spaghetti straps. You can see the upper arms in their entirety, but the thin straps make them look stretched and slimmer.
  • The sleeveless tops (T-shirt without sleeves) are not recommended at all, because the wide straps also make the upper arms appear thicker. The following applies here: the thinner the wearer, the thinner the upper arm looks.

Strapless tops do not hide

  • Hence are dresses or tops without straps taboo. Since the top already sits tightly on the upper body anyway, because it has to hold, it will skin "pushed out" under the armpits. This creates a small "sausage" under the armpits. If you don't have sleeves then, the upper arms look fleshy and thicker than they actually are.
  • If you don't want to do without sleeveless tops, you could pull a bolero jacket over it. This kills two birds with one stone: the folds of skin under the armpits cannot be seen and the thick upper arms are concealed.
  • At a festive a dress you can also put a light scarf around your shoulders, which on the one hand gives a playful look and on the other hand covers the thick upper arms.
