VIDEO: Making lanterns in kindergarten

instagram viewer

These instructions show you how you can make a hedgehog-shaped lantern together with your child in kindergarten. Depending on the age of the child, you will of course have to help out in certain areas. It gets a bit tricky when putting the individual parts together, which is why a second pair of hands will be very useful.

Make a hedgehog template for your lanterns

  1. Look for a hedgehog picture in a book or on the Internet and use this picture to draw the hedgehog's body shape on the cardboard.
  2. If you are not one of the most gifted draftsmen, first draw a line about 40 cm long. Then place the pencil on one end of the line and guide the pencil straight, then in a large arc to the other end of the line.
  3. So you now have a simplified hedgehog shape in front of you: a pointed snout that merges directly into the rounded back.
  4. Your child will certainly have their own ideas of what the hedgehog should look like and can draw the shape all by themselves.
  5. Tinker Halloween lanterns - this is how it works

How to make the lantern in kindergarten

  1. Have your child cut the hedgehog shape out of the cardboard twice.
  2. Use the ruler to measure a 20 cm wide strip that corresponds to the length of the long side of the cardboard sheet. And cut it out.
  3. Since the long cardboard strip should later form a curve, you now have to approx. Cut 1.5 to 2 cm deep prongs all around into the two long strips. Fold the prongs outward. The prongs will later serve as glue tabs.
  4. Now take the compass or saucer and use it to draw a circle on each hedgehog belly. If necessary, help your child cut out the circle.
  5. Next, glue a piece of tracing paper from the inside behind the circle. The light shines through the hedgehog belly through this paper.
  6. Your child can now design the lantern to suit their mood, e.g. B. paints a face for the hedgehog with colored pencils, glues on legs. Kindergarten children are incredibly creative and are sure to have lots of ideas.
  7. Now comes the somewhat tricky part of making lanterns, because the cardboard strip with the adhesive flaps must now be glued as a connection between the two pieces of hedgehog. To do this, it is best to first lay one of the two hedgehogs upside down in front of you and coat a few of the adhesive flaps with liquid glue. Note that the lantern must have an opening at the top - so the circle must not be completely closed.
  8. Now glue the strip piece by piece along the viewing window. Do the same with the other side. Let the lantern dry well.
  9. Poke 2 small holes in the lantern to hold the wire bracket in place. The bracket then enables you to hang the lantern stick in a stable manner.

Have fun with your individual hedgehog lantern!
