How to make a world map with country names suitable for children

The educational game consists in drawing the entire world on a large sheet of paper using a world map with country names as a template and country templates. That takes some preparation. The game is also fun for parents if you “coach” the offspring.

  1. Look for world maps on the Internet that show the country borders and, best of all, the country names. Then print them out as large as possible. Of course, you can also copy images from books and enlarge them with photocopying.
  2. Glue the printed or copied sheets onto cardboard. Do not use a clear photo adhesive for this.
  3. Wait for the glue to dry completely.
  4. With a pair of sharp scissors, cut apart all the countries at their borders and write theirs Names thereon. You can also paint the country flag next to it.
  5. Good colored pencils - this is how you choose good quality

Painting is a beautiful and creative pastime. It relaxes the adult ...

  6. Keep all parts in a box until you are ready to use them. So no country is lost.

Run the game

  1. Spread out a large sheet of paper on a level floor or an appropriately sized table, the bigger the better. The best thing to do is to acquire or construct an area at least 70 cm high and 150 cm wide. Have colored pencils ready.
  2. Now the child or each child reach into the box once and take out an outline of the country.
  3. Help the children determine the correct country location. You can also roughly mark the areas in which the respective continents are located beforehand.
  4. Now the child is allowed to draw the contours of the land on the paper with a pen using the template.
  5. Then the country name is written in the outline. If the country is too small, the name is written in a free space and connected to the country by a line.

Incentives and the game as a competition

  • To simplify matters, you can pre-sort the templates by, for example, listing all countries in Europe etc. put together and the playing child only uses these at first.
  • Create incentives to play and give the youngsters a sense of achievement by awarding a prize for completing a section. It could be a small bag of gummy bears, a chocolate kiss, a small toy, or a little TV time.
  • If several children are involved in the game, it can be turned into a great competition. One or two little ones are then responsible for one continent. To the delight of the participants, you can also identify this with a color system. For example, the "Asia Group" with carnival make-up has a yellow dot painted on its nose, the Africa group a black, Europe a white etc. Whoever has finished drawing his area first, wins.
