In the worst case, rust has also formed on the runners. But that's not a big deal - you should just remove rust from the runners.

How to get the runners off the sled rust-free again

Rust removal at the beginning of winter is always part of the process when you take a look at the runners of your sled. Of the rust not only creates an unattractive look - the fast sliding is also over. It is time for you to act.

  1. You don't need much for this: Just buy some coarse and fine sandpaper at the hardware store. You don't have to invest a lot of money for this.
  2. After that, muscle strength is required. Turn the sled over so the runners are facing up.
  3. Now sand the rust with the coarse sandpaper. Be sure to only sand in one direction. Here it is advisable to start at the front and grind backwards.
  4. As soon as the rust has been removed evenly, you still have to rework in the same way with the fine sandpaper. Now remove the remains of your work from the runners.

  5. So that the runners of your sled slide again as usual, there is only one step left: wax the freshly sharpened runners of your sled. This works fine with a normal candle. Simply rub it over the runners several times in both directions.

If you repeat this process several times over the winter, you don't have to worry about rust on the runners.

How to properly store your sled

You can also easily avoid rust in the future if you observe a few simple points when storing your sled:

  • Store your sled as upright as possible so that neither the runners nor the seating area rest on the floor.
  • Make sure that the storage room is not damp. Alternatively, you can also pack the sledge in a plastic cover that is as airtight as possible.
  • Before you start storing, you should apply a thin layer of oil to the runners and wax one last time.

This means that your sled can be used for years without any problems and does not rust.
