Internet - what exactly is it?

There is hardly anyone who does that Internet does not use it, but hardly anyone asks what the internet actually is. First the brief explanation: The Internet is the worldwide network of computers that can communicate with each other. That is too complicated? Then a very clear explanation follows:

• Imagine that you are a computer and your thoughts and knowledge are data. All other people in the world are of course also computers.
• If you want to pass on your knowledge, i.e. your data, then of course you first have to meet other people (or computers). So you go out and talk to someone or call someone. The type of communication is not important in this case, just that your knowledge leaves your "home computer", i.e. your brain.
• The other person to whom you have told something tells another person and the next person continues to tell it. So you are networked worldwide and so the data takes its way through the world. The Internet is therefore accessible to everyone worldwide.

And what is intranet?

With the intranet you are also networked and share your data or information with other computers (people). In contrast to the Internet, however, only with a certain group of people, such as friends or family. The data does not leave this group of people and is internal. Intranet access is therefore restricted to a certain user group, such as the employees of a company or the members of an association.

The difference between the Internet and an intranet at a glance

• The internet is accessible to everyone around the world.
• In principle, everyone is networked with everyone and can exchange data and information without restriction.

The characteristics of the intranet:

• Only certain, authorized persons have access to the respective intranet.
• Information and data do not leave this network and cannot be accessed without access.
