Use the cell phone as a modem in emergencies

Before you switch to WiFi, DSL or do without a USB stick and prefer to use the cell phone as a modem, you should be aware of one thing: The costs of using the Internet can be considerably higher for cell phones. You should therefore only use this variant in an emergency when there is really no alternative to Internet access.

The data packets that you download from the network using a laptop or computer are much higher than when you access the World Wide Web directly from your mobile phone.
  3. In order to be able to use the mobile phone as a modem, you have to connect it to your computer. See if your cell phone comes with a USB cable or you can get one at a retailer.
  4. Connect the mobile device to the USB port on your computer or laptop and start the automatic hardware installation. Usually a window will open in which you will find a setup.exe file. Open it and follow the installation instructions on the screen.

  6. Now you need to set up a network connection. This also happens automatically when your mobile phone is connected to the computer. To do this, click on the Internet symbol in the bar at the bottom right and select the appropriate one from the connections.
  7. You may have to enter a phone number or PIN to start dialing in to the network. You can find out this number from your mobile operator by making a short call to the customer center.
  8. If the network dial-in worked, open a web browser as usual and start surfing the Internet.
