Gmail with its own domain - you should know that

  • I'm sure you know him e-mail-Service from Google, with which you can set up a free e-mail account, as with most other providers (GMX, Yahoo, Freenet etc.).
  • With such standard services, you can choose a name of your choice which, however, names the provider's domain after the @ sign. While this is acceptable for most users, if you want to use your own domain, you can simply go to Google set up without having to forego its services and interface.
  • If you want to set up your own domain, you usually already have your own homepage, which you connect to your e-mail address. If this is the case, the second part of your address (after the @ sign) corresponds to the name of the domain on which you have also saved the content of your website.
  • There are a few requirements you need to meet to set up. You must first have access to your Domain Name System (DNS) settings. If you do not have access to it yourself or do not know how, then either ask your provider or support whether they can make the settings for you.
  • Of course, you should be a little familiar with this area, because small or large mistakes can happen quickly.

Set up an email address with your own domain - this is how it works

  1. When you meet the above requirements, you are ready to start setting up your own domain.
  2. First, register at Google Apps and enter the required data there. This includes your first and last name and your email address. Please note that this is a free trial version; the full version is chargeable.
  3. After this step you will receive a confirmation and access to the administrator interface. At first glance, this looks quite confusing, but here, too, everything is self-explanatory.
  4. On this interface you specify which services should be activated (e.g. B. Calendar, tables, reader etc.). You will also see the data for the DNS settings there, which you will now enter in the backend of your provider. You can see that it is important that you have access to it and that you also have to be familiar with it. Otherwise you could damage your homepage or set offline.
  5. The settings at the provider and its DNS server will be applied within 48 hours. As soon as that is the case, you can use and manage your Gmail with your own domain.
