A parents evening in kindergarten planning, coordinating, and executing is not as difficult as you might think. It is important to have a topic that is oriented towards the needs and interests of the parents and that encourages participation.

Plan and prepare the parents' evening - tips and hints

  • Together with your colleagues, think about the topic of the parents' evening. Pedagogical questions and problems, organizational aspects with regard to the involvement of parents in the day-care center or upcoming parties, celebrations or projects are conceivable.
  • There should be at least four, better six weeks between the first planning meeting and the date for the parents' evening in kindergarten.
  • If educational or health topics are to be presented and discussed, you have two options. Either a member of your team takes over the planning and organization of the evening or you invite a guest speaker. For example, teachers from local elementary schools, employees of the health department or authors of children-, youth or advice books.
  • To help you plan, you should send out an invitation to parents at least two weeks before the event so that you can assess how many chairs, tables, drinks, etc. You need.
  • Make a successful parenting council election in kindergarten

At the beginning of the kindergarten year, a parents' council election is made in every kindergarten ...

  • The invitation should include the logo of the day care center or the provider, a brief outline of the topic and a section that the parents give back to the day care center for planning purposes.
  • Think about which form of presentation seems most suitable for your content. A PowerPoint presentation, a film or a panel discussion with experts in which the parents can answer their personal questions would be conceivable.

Holding a parents' evening in kindergarten - that's what counts

  • Make sure you manage your time properly when it comes to preparing and running the evening, and make sure that all the media you need are in place on time.
  • Greet the parents as much as you can is personal.
  • Start the event with a brief introduction and explain the individual program items. So the parents know from the start what to expect.
  • Try to make the evening as varied as possible and use different methods. Two-hour lectures are usually not suitable for captivating the audience.
  • Stay flexible and cater to parents' needs. There's no point in slavishly sticking to a prepackaged plan if your parents are bored.
  • Ask for feedback at the end of the event so that the following parents' evenings are even more successful.
