Getting started with the Brother CE-700
When using an electrical device for the first time, an operating manual is always required so that the device is not accidentally damaged. Of course, this also applies to the Brother CE-700 typewriter:
- Carefully unpack the machine by removing any styrofoam or cardboard that was attached to it for protection. Of course, you also have to remove the outer packaging, which is usually made of plastic. Remember that there are also shipping locks inside the typewriter that you need to remove.
- Now insert the paper support by inserting the tabs attached to it on the rear edge of the typewriter. There is a marked extension on the back of the paper support that can indicate the end of the paper when the machine is in use.
- Now check whether the noise cover is closed. This is located between the keyboard and the paper feed. That this cover is always closed is important, among other things, as it prevents objects from falling into the typewriter.
- Now open the housing cover to check whether there is already a correction ribbon and a color ribbon in it. If this is not the case, you must now insert the two straps. This works by inserting the tabs on the bands into the appropriate holes and clicking the bands forward.

Instructions for use for the first time
Before you use your typewriter for the first time, you should go through the following steps in the instruction manual:
- Open the housing cover again to check whether the battery required for data storage is in it. To insert a battery, proceed as follows: Slide the type wheel to the right so that you have free access to the battery cover, which is located on the left in the housing.
- Remove the lid of the battery holder by pushing the tab to the left. The cover can now be removed. Then insert the battery so that the positive pole faces up. Make sure that the battery is securely seated in the holder.
- Now you can press the power button, which is located on the left edge of the housing.
- Now test whether all functions of the Brother CE-700 work: Insert a sheet of paper and press the Shift key and the PITCH key at the same time. The typewriter will now automatically print a test sheet.
