What does condense mean?

Many people know condensing from condensed milk, which is slightly thicker and richer than normal milk. The condensation would be explained badly with this.

Can milk condense?

  • Condensed milk is thickened using a special process. About 60% of the water is removed by negative pressure and increased temperatures.
  • This means that there is no condensation in the true sense of the word. To do this, the milk itself would have to be converted into a gaseous state. This is not possible due to the complex composition of the liquid.
  • What actually happens to the milk is a concentration, as the substances dissolved in the water are now dissolved in less water than before.

What condensation really means

  • When a gas becomes liquid, physicists call this condensation.
  • Usually this happens when the gas cools below the boiling point.
  • Evaporation and vaporization - the difference explained physically

Unfortunately, the terms "evaporate" and "vaporize" are often used synonymously. Included …

  • So condensing is the opposite of evaporation.
  • However, condensation can also take place because the air pressure changes. This happens, for example, when an airplane flies through moist air. The pressure conditions around the blades change rapidly, which is why some of the moisture condenses. This is then visible as contrails in the sky.
  • In particular, water vapor is always present in the air, even at normal room temperatures. The air absorbs part of the moisture. Depending on the temperature, the air can hold more or less water vapor. One speaks of relative humidity.
  • When a relative humidity of 100% is reached, the water vapor condenses immediately. This means that fog is created.
  • In rooms, the water vapor usually condenses on the windows. This is because these are colder than the room. The relative humidity in the immediate vicinity of these areas therefore rises sharply.
