Almost every plant has different conditions that you have to meet. And so that you can enjoy your plants for a long time, you should inform yourself well about the aforementioned key points before purchasing. Of course, this also applies to asters.

Are asters hardy and what care do they prefer?

• Asters are rather insensitive and do not require any particular care, at least in summer.
• Depending on the variety, the composites bloom from mid-May to the end of October and can reach a height of around 20 to 200 cm.
• Asters need a sunny to partially shaded location. The soil should be rich in nutrients. A sandy soil would not be so ideal here because it cannot store the nutrients for long.
• Asters are usually hardy. However, there are some varieties, such as the alpine aster and the mountain aster, that do not tolerate the cold quite as well and should preferably be housed in winter quarters.
• The hardy asters can be planted until autumn. Only the frost should not have crept into the ground yet.
• If the aster has survived the winter, cut back the shoots properly. Since the shoots provide a kind of protection against the cold, they should never be cut in autumn.
