Find out and formulate the author's intention
What does the author mean by that? The so-called author intention causes problems for many students. It's not that difficult at all if you approach the task in a targeted manner.
What is author intention?
- Author's intention is the intention with which the author wrote something and the associated intention to bring about certain insights or rules of behavior in the reader.
- The author has a certain readership in mind.
- The actual readership can, however, differ.
How do you find the right author intention?
- There is no right author intention.
- Every literary work has a different response from readers.
- Every reader has different life experiences.
- Age and social background play a role that should not be underestimated.
- But in order to find an author's intention that applies to you, you have to ask yourself at the end what the work meant for you.
- Further questions can be: Did the work stimulate me to think? What can I learn for myself from this work? How has the work affected my attitude, my behavior?
- In answering all of these questions, it is important that you give reasons for your correct answers.
- They don't have to agree with other people's expectations.

What additional information is important?
- In the case of the author's intention, you must not ignore the embedding in the correct historical epoch and the consideration of the author's origin.
- Since social and historical events influence the works of the authors, they are also important for the reader and the related author's intention.
- Questions like this can then arise: Is the work still justified today?
How do you write a good author intention?
- Structure your draft in a comprehensible manner.
- Always write from your point of view.
- Justify each of your points of view as soon as you write them.
- Check whether you would accept your reasoning for yourself.
- Rely on facts and well-known examples that are understandable and verifiable.
- The author's intention recorded by you must be clear, but can be both for and against in relation to the work.
- If you make any statements about which heroes you could identify with the most, immediately state the reasons for it.
If you want to practice writing an author's intention, it makes sense to read different works and then write an author's intention for yourself. Perhaps you have someone in your circle of acquaintances who then reads this for you independently and gives his or her opinion. It is important, however, that the reader of your author's intention also knows the work.
