Find out how a newspaper article is basically structured
There are many different types of newspaper articles, the following is the most common type.
- The headline always comes first. The headline is the headline and is intended to convey the content of the article briefly and to arouse curiosity.
- The "signature" is a sentence that is usually under the heading. What is in the article is summarized here in one sentence. The signature is usually not much longer than the heading.
- The introduction in bold, the so-called "lead", comes before the actual newspaper article. It is a kind of introduction and answers relevant W-questions. The question arises of who it is about, when something happened, what happened and where it happened. The final question is to speculate or determine why an event occurred. Here, too, there is a short version of the actual article, but details are saved.
- Now comes the actual article, the so-called "body". The W-questions are answered again, only in much more detail, backgrounds are presented and further details are given. Sources, interviews and quotations can also be found in the main text.

Different types of newspaper articles
- The "news" is factual and reports about an event. The W-questions will be answered and you will not give your own opinion.
- During the "interview" a person, often a celebrity or a politician, is asked questions. These are then printed with the answers.
- The "comment" is a statement in which the author reveals his own opinion, but justifies it. In this way the reader forms his own opinion.
