How to make a lantern out of paper
- Have a piece of paper - white or colored - in a size of 30 x 30 cm and a pair of scissors ready.
- Now fold the paper diagonally so that point on point and unfold the resulting triangle again. Do the same with the other two corners of the sheet.
- Now lay the sheet down with one straight side facing you and fold the top side of the sheet down. The edges folded in advance will help you with this. At the end, you should have two triangles lying on top of each other.
- Now lay the longer side ready in front of you and fold both side edges of the triangle you can see inwards towards the middle.
- Turn the figure over and do the same with the triangle that is now visible. This creates a dragon figure.
- Now the scissors are used. Use this to cut off the smaller tip of the figure. A new shape is created that resembles a cone.
- Now unfold the figure and you will see that it doesn’t look much like a lantern until now, but step by step you’re getting closer and closer to your goal.
- You now see an octagon with 16 kinks. Now fold the edges of the figure halfway towards the middle. This creates a square. Tighten the creases well, then the next few steps will make it easier, and unfold the square again.
- Now turn the octagon once to the left and fold the edges that have not yet been folded, halfway towards the middle, draw the creases well and fold the paper again apart.
- Now you can see the shape of a kite. Now fold the intermediate pieces of these shapes inwards. Some pieces can lie on top of each other.
- If you have done everything correctly, you will now recognize a dragon shape again.
- Now fold the smaller, upper point down and fold the long edges of the kite shape to the right and continue with the other kite shapes.
- Now carefully pull the shape apart and recognize your lantern in the shape of a star.
- Now just press the bottom of the paper lantern a little with your hand, then it will get better stability.
