Sew a grill apron yourself for a grill master
What a real grill master wants to be, protects itself with a stylish grill apron in a self-designed model. That's how easy it is to sew them yourself.
What you need:
- 1 meter of fabric of your choice
- Fabric paints or scraps of fabric for decoration
- yarn
- Pins
- sewing machine
You don't have to be a professional to sew a real barbecue apron. In just a few steps, the first work is already completed and can protect the grill master from splashes of fat during his job.
The right fabric for a grill apron
When you go to the fabric store to buy suitable work materials, keep in mind that a barbecue apron will also want to be used. So choose a fabric that is easy to wash.
The right color must of course also look good at the barbecue party. Summer colors usually work better here than winter tones.
The grill master himself has the last word. If he doesn't like the grill apron, he won't wear it either.
A barbecue apron not only has to be able to withstand grease stains, but also the occasional flying sparks. So choose a sturdy fabric; preferably made of cotton.
Pay attention to the width of the fabric. With standard fabrics, which are usually 150 cm wide, you can easily get there with one meter of fabric. Even less is enough for lean cooks.

The apron takes shape
First, cut two strips about ten centimeters wide across the entire width of the fabric. Make sure that the cut edge is straight.
First fold the edges of the strips in the middle and then fold the whole strip in the middle. The front of the fabric must be on the outside.
Put a seam on the strip that is as close as possible to the open side.
Now fold the large piece of fabric in the middle and mark the grill master's waist length. Don't forget a two to three centimeter seam allowance.
Then mark half the width of the chest (the width that the apron should have at the top edge) (on the fabric that was cut in half).
Draw a loose curve that connects the edge of the chest with the height of the waist.
When cutting, note that you need two to three centimeters for the seam allowance.
Now measure the desired length for the grill apron and cut off the remaining fabric. (Note the seam allowance!)
Unfold the fabric again and fold all the fabric edges over twice. If you want a visible hem, first fold an inch to the left and then an inch to the right. But be careful: Small inaccuracies are more visible here than with the usual invisible hem, which is folded twice an inch to the left.
Pin this hem with plenty of pins.
At the corners of the chest edge and the end of the connecting curves, attach the fabric ribbons you made earlier and place the hem around here. For most grill masters, the length of the fabric straps is enough if you use a third for the neck and two thirds for the waist.
sew Now secure the hem of the grill apron with the sewing machine.
Finally, turn the ends of the fabric straps inwards and sew them too.
With the leftover fabric, you can now add little extras such as Bags attach to the apron. You can also use the fabric paint to attach colorful patterns or funny drawings to the grill apron. How about a singing bratwurst, for example?
