You can certainly buy a draft stopper. But why spend a lot of money on it? You can make a draft stopper yourself without much effort; You don't even have to be able to sew for this.

Self-made draft stoppers - that's it

  • Use the tape measure to measure the width of the door under which the wind blows into the apartment.
  • Then make your way to a fabric store or the fabric department of a department store. Choose a nice, slightly thicker fabric there. The piece of fabric that you need for the draft stopper should be around 20-30 cm longer than the door width you have measured and around 60 cm wide.
  • In the same department, you can probably get a color-coordinated cord. You will need the cut in half to tie the pull-through stopper later. Don't buy too little of the cord so that you can tie it into two decorative bows.
  • You will also need a few packages of cotton wool to fill the draft stopper. The inexpensive, commercially available cosmetic wadding from the drugstore is suitable for this.
  • Sewing letters - this is how you design a door sign made of fabric

Door signs are usually made of metal, sometimes wood or ceramic, but why ...

This is how the draft stopper works

  1. When you've gathered everything, do the following: Spread the fabric face down on the floor.
  2. Then spread most of the cotton along the length of the fabric, about six inches from the edge of the fabric. The length of the distributed cotton wool must correspond to the width of the door. Leave a piece of fabric of the same width free on the left and right.
  3. Now roll up the cotton wool strand. Then tie one end of the pull-through stopper with the cord and stuff a little cotton wool if necessary. Make sure that the roller does not open again.
  4. As soon as the draft stopper is tightly stuffed with cotton wool, tie it up at the second end.
