There is hardly anything more boring than a presentation that is presented as a monologue and does not take into account whether the audience is following the content or switching off. It's more fun and educational if you involve your listeners with the right strategy.

Standing in front of a group of listeners and reading a presentation from the template does not exactly indicate special skills. If you mumble in a monotonous, suppressed voice and avoid eye contact with the audience, you can be sure that the effective use of your presentation tends towards zero. But do not despair! You can learn to present an exciting presentation.

Prepare your presentation in a targeted manner

  • A lecture can also be given as a monologue. But it is better if you involve your audience. You will find that you can flourish in dialogue and present your knowledge of the topic of the presentation in an understandable and interesting way.
  • It is important that you prepare your presentation at home in such a way that you know the content exactly and also outside of the text still have in-depth knowledge so that you can answer questions from your audience with a certain degree of self-confidence can.
  • Read the text aloud several times at home. Speak on tape and listen to yourself. You should be familiar with the text so that you can improvise if necessary.
  • Structure the text so that you can easily follow the text and immediately pick up the thread again when you turn your gaze from the audience back to the template. Write in larger letters and the sentence series at least 1.5 lines. Make paragraphs. Underline certain terms that characterize your presentation.
  • Giving a lecture about Stonehenge - that's how it works interactively

Stonehenge is an interesting lecture topic, but not that easy ...

  • Hand out a written document that reflects the structure of your presentation.

Don't be afraid of your audience

  • Make sure that you keep lifting your gaze from the template and into the eyes of the audience. If you have problems with this, find a listener who is sympathetic to you. If necessary, look in the direction of an imaginary listener.
  • Make sure you speak slowly. Take a deep breath. Don't get hectic and take breaks.
  • Use every opportunity to give a presentation. Only practice will bring you self-confidence and confidence.

Announce that you want to involve everyone

  • At the beginning of your presentation, point out to the audience that you do not want to give a monologue, that you are open to questions and include everyone. Directly ask the audience to contribute to your presentation with questions or constructive criticism.
  • Take a short break after the end of a piece of text. Ask if there are any objections or questions to be asked.
  • Be careful when a listener wants to ask something but doesn't really dare. Watch out for arm signs. If someone shakes his head in displeasure or sighs to himself, ask him if he has any objections.
  • Ask questions to the audience. Ask if anyone has personal experience with a particular aspect of your presentation or if they have suggestions for solving a problem.
  • Answer questions kindly, politely, and never reluctantly, condescendingly, or knowing better. Respect the level of knowledge and possible deficits of your audience. After all, you should teach and the audience learn.
  • Don't answer a question negatively. Pick up the question and carefully guide you to the correct answer. Don't scare the audience into finding the courage to ask more questions.
