Special features of the husky

Some animals like this pleasant warmth and even sleep near the heater in winter, but the heat can quickly lead to serious damage and even death. If you follow some advice for keeping your husky in summer, wonderful months are ahead of you and your animal.

The attitude in summer

• It is best to postpone long walks in the early hours of the morning. In the evening you can go for another round with the husky when the sun is no longer in the sky and it has cooled down a bit. Choose shady paths and let the husky bathe and splash around in the stream. This allows the animal to cool down and has a pleasantly cooling feeling while being fur dries.

• Make sure, however, that you never offer the husky ice-cold water to drink after such a walk. If you want to cool the dog down, you can put wet towels on the floor for him, and if he puts up with it, put a cold towel over his back. When the dog has rested, put a bowl of water in front of him.

• Many huskies dig a hole in the ground into which they lie. If you keep your husky in the garden or outdoors, you will hardly be able to prevent digging such holes in the ground. If necessary, fence in a separate piece and allow the dog to create its own facility here.
