It is bad enough when a person is so needy that he receives care allowance. If you, as a caring relative, take on this care, you are even entitled to monthly pension contributions for your own pension fund from a certain care level.

How you can receive pension contributions for caregivers

If a person can no longer do his most essential work on his own, he needs help. In such cases, the statutory long-term care insurance comes in, so that at least his basic needs are secured. However, if you can take on a certain part of this care temporarily, you are also entitled to the corresponding care allowance on a pro-rata basis.

  • If you take care of your relative over the entire period, you are entitled to pension contributions for family carers from a certain level of care. Since January 2011, the care allowance in the individual levels has been in care level 1 = 225 euros or 440 euros in benefits in kind, care level 2 = 430 euros or 1040 euros for benefits in kind and in care level 3 = 685 euros or 10 510 euros for benefits in kind.
  • This money is paid out to the person requiring care by the statutory long-term care insurance. They must then forward the care allowance to you. If there is full inpatient care, the increased care allowance is paid to the company concerned. There may also be a combination of private home care and partial care by the nursing service. In that case, you must first make an advance payment on behalf of your relative and, after receiving the invoice, you must go to the long-term care insurance an application for allocation of the difference between the care allowance already received and the care allowance for benefits in kind place.
  • From care level 2 onwards, as a caregiver, you are entitled to pension contributions for caring relatives in accordance with Section 37 SGB XI. With care level 2, for example, you would receive a monthly salary of 2,450 euros for 21 hours of care per week.
