Perhaps you have a mascara that you particularly enjoy using but that you save for special occasions. However, if this has not been used for too long, the make-up can dry out. Sometimes a little water helps to make the mascara liquid again.

Dried mascara is annoying. You can tell that you can no longer use the mascara for the time being because it looks very viscous when applied to the Eyelashes forms small lumps or can no longer be applied properly. If you would like to continue using the ink, you have various options for making it usable again.

Make water-soluble mascara usable again

  • If the mascara is not waterproof, i.e. can be removed from your eyelashes with water, then it can also be diluted with water again. Adding a drop of water here can help make the chewy mascara more fluid and loosen any lumps.
  • However, it is important that you do not add too much water, because if the mascara has become too liquid, you can no longer undo this. It is therefore best to use a pipette and carefully put a drop into the make-up bottle.
  • Shake it afterwards and let the mixture work a little. Then test whether the mascara can now be applied better. If this is not the case, i.e. if there are still lumps after 10 minutes, you can repeat the procedure. Alternatively, you can moisten the brush briefly and then put it back in the bottle.

It is important that you use distilled water, because the ink will eventually reach yours eyes and should therefore contain as few impurities and germs as possible. You should then only use the diluted mascara for a maximum of 14 days, because mixing can also cause impurities in the make-up. However, it is less advisable to use oil, as this can smear after application.

Make mascara liquid without water

A great way to make mascara liquid again is with glycerin. You can buy this at the pharmacy; it is often found in make-up anyway to bind water and therefore make the products supple and usable.

  • Place your mascara in a cup of warm water so that the makeup bottle is about halfway in the water. After approx. For 20 minutes, put a drop of glycerin in the mascara with a pipette. Then stir the ink with the small brush to make the ink usable again.
  • Sometimes it is enough to make it liquid if you just put the mascara in hot water. This prevents germs from getting into the ink, but you should let it cool down before using it.
