If you want to learn the flight role, you should first master the tumble forward. The flight role builds on the somersault. Both exercises have in common the rolling over the shoulders and the head posture. The flight role is nothing more than a tumbling forward with a run-up.

Learn to fly and do gymnastics on the floor mat

  1. To learn the flight role, you should first do some tumbling forward on a thin floor mat for gymnastics. Preferably not from a crouch, but from a standing position with a little momentum. Make sure that the head does not or hardly touches the ground.
  2. Try to distribute the weight of your body between your two hands and roll it over your shoulders. Place your chin on your chest. The more momentum you have, the easier it will be for that poor to catch their weight.
  3. Now try to make the next somersault more swinging. For the next but one, stand a meter in front of the mat and take a run-up.
  4. Now take more and more distance from the mat, so that you eventually have to walk several meters. Jump generously in front of the mat, i.e. at least a meter, otherwise you will no longer land on the mat. In this way you will learn the flight role little by little.

  6. If that works without any problems, you can now place an obstacle between you and the mat. Now try jumping forward to fly over the obstacle and roll off. The obstacle should be between forty and sixty centimeters high, depending on your height.
  7. In gymnastics, as in all other sports, the more relaxed you are, the safer it is. During the run-up, you shouldn't slow down and don't get into the simple gymnastics exercise. Stay relaxed and don't worry, this will minimize your risk of injury.
