Fertile days - when is the time?

  • The female cycle is not the same for every woman.
  • Still, there are a few key points that can help you find out when you are fertile.
  • Your cycle starts on the first day of your menstrual period and is counted until the first day of your next menstrual period.
  • For most women, the cycle is between twenty-one and thirty-five days. An average cycle is approximately twenty eight days.
  • At the beginning of your cycle, an egg cell matures in one of your ovaries. At the same time, the lining of the uterus builds up in your uterus, and if the mature egg is not fertilized, it will bleed off.
  • Noticing ovulation

Knowing the time of ovulation and thus the fertile days is important in order to ...

  • When your egg has matured, it ovulates and the mature egg moves into your fallopian tube. You are now fertile for about twenty-four hours. However, the fertile days usually begin approx. three days before ovulation, so that a total of approx. is fertile for five days.
  • After the unfertilized egg cell dies, there are infertile days until the next cycle.
  • You will most likely ovulate between the twelfth and sixteenth day before your next menstrual period, if you have an average cycle of twenty-eight.

How to find out your cycle

  • To find out when to be fertile, as a woman, you should know your body and cycle well.
  • In order to have a precise overview of your cycle and the fertile days, it is advisable to keep a cycle calendar for at least four months. Only then can you assess how long and regular your cycle is. Ask for a cycle calendar in your gynecological practice. Your doctor will be able to give you a calendar and explain how to use it again.
  • Uncertain signs that you are fertile are, for example, tightness in the chest, increased sexual desire, intermenstrual bleeding or even a slight pulling in the lower abdomen. Some women can feel ovulation in this way. However, this is not a reliable method of determining when to ovulate.
  • A sure sign, however, is an increased clear cervical mucus, which is noticeable as a discharge. If you notice this discharge and it is pulling strings between your fingers, ovulation is about to happen and will take place in the next two to three days. You can also wear disposable gloves to check the mucus.

The mucus test method is not suitable for prevention because it is too unreliable. Talk to your doctor about birth control.
