Lottery ticket: system or normal
With the lottery you can either fill out a normal lottery ticket or a system ticket. In addition to the price, the two also differ in the ways they can win.
The probability of getting the right lottery ticket
- In Germany, 6 numbers are drawn twice a week from a lottery wheel with 49 numbered balls. So that's 104 drawings in one year.
- There are 13983816 possible combinations of six drawn numbers. Tick one of them on your lottery ticket.
- In order to win the jackpot, in addition to the correctly typed number combination, you must also find the correct one of ten final digits for the super number on your lottery ticket. So there are theoretically 139838160 possible combinations of numbers, only one of which wins the jackpot.
- Assuming every German had filled out a lottery ticket and everyone had a different combination of numbers, then the chances would be 81,726,000 to 1,39838160 (= 0.58). In purely mathematical terms, a player would win about every second drawing, there would be about 52 jackpot winners a year.
- But since not every German plays and many stick to popular combinations or dates of birth, there are far fewer lottery tickets that can win.

The winnings in the system lottery
- The system tickets promise to improve these low probabilities and increase the profits. To find out whether the higher price for the system certificate is worthwhile, you can calculate the probabilities.
- With the system lotto, you do not tick six, but seven to 15 numbers on your lottery ticket. The probability of hitting the six winning numbers with the additional digits increases slightly.
- If you tick seven digits, you will be tapping seven different combinations of six. (You can leave out any of the 7 to have 6 numbers) Your chances of a six are no longer 1: 13983816, but increase slightly to 7: 13983816. But for this you also have to pay seven times the price. You can just as easily fill in seven fields on a normal lottery ticket.
- The winnings are also calculated as if you had filled in seven fields. If you match three numbers, you will receive the win for each of the seven combinations of six that contain the three winning numbers.
- You can only save with system lotto if you play so much that the basic fee for a lottery ticket is waived. With eight ticked numbers, you would have to fill out 28 fields without a system, i.e. three lottery tickets, each of which costs a fee.
